Treasure House Theater presents Henrik Ibsen's classic drama, directed by Daniel Paul.
June 5 - 29 at ArcLight Theatre
The Treasure House Theater follows up its acclaimed production of The Cherry Orchard last summer with a fresh take on Henrik Ibsen's classic drama HEDDA GABLER translated by Rolf Fjelde. Directed by Daniel Paul, performances begin previews June 5 at ArcLight Theatre with opening set for June 12.
HEDDA GABLER is a fiercely independent and self-aware woman, born into the confining age of late 19th century Norwegian society. Craving freedom and an escape from a mundane life and a passionless marriage, Hedda jumps at the opportunity to ruthlessly destroy a former lover and rival of her husband, with tragic results.
"HEDDA GABLER is a burning edifice that serves as a catalyst of an early sexual independence movement,” notes director Daniel Paul. "It is a dramatic masterpiece full of humor that is so relevant to our times, and challenges us to think and feel in new ways. Some claim the play contains a feminist message, but I believe there's a much broader message to be gleaned about mercy -- and the lack thereof -- in a fundamentalist Christian Society."
The production stars Gabriell Elù, Jamie H. Jung (King Lear with Titan Theatre Company), Judy Fowler, Catherine DeCioccio (Baal with Hoi Polloi), Stephen Christopher, William Jousset and Bibi Lucas. The production team includes Misha Pyle (costumes), Michael Imlay (set).
HEDDA GABLER is the second fully stage production by Treasure House Theater, a dynamic new company dedicated to producing classical plays for a contemporary audience.
Director Daniel Paul has over twenty-five years experience in New York City theater as an actor and director. He began his career with JR Sullivan at The New American Theater and continued on with Shakespeare and Company's winter home, The American Stage Company in St. Petersburg Florida. His New York directorial credits include Moon Children by Leonard Melfi, a festival of Vaclav Havel plays for the embassies of the Czech Republic, Our Town, Skin Of Our Teeth, King Lear and many more, including Treasure House's Cherry Orchard in summer of 2013.
HEDDA GABLER runs June 5 - 29, Wednesday - Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2pm.
