Musical comedy performer and AIDS activist Lee Raines headlines a benefit for Broadway Cares.
Friday, March 21 at The Laurie Beechman Theatre
Lee Raines will headline HOW TO SURVIVE A BENEFIT on Friday, March 21 at 7:00 PM at The Laurie Beechman Theatre (407 West 42 Street). The show benefits Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Tickets are $25, and are available at www.SpinCycleNYC.com or by phone at 212-352-3101.
HOW TO SURVIVE A BENEFIT is fifth in a series of zany, unconventional cabaret performances benefitting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The show also celebrates Lee’s 25 years of living, loving, laughing and lounging successfully in the face of AIDS. The show will feature performances by Broadway luminaries and broken down chorus boys in a madcap jamboree. Highlights include “I Can’t Do It Alone” from Chicago, selections from “My Heart Event,” and an over-staged, over-produced, and over-the-top version of Cher’s “Dark Lady,” arguably the world’s most perfect pop song. Guest performers include Gary Alaimo, Tim Pinckney, Mason Roberts, John Salvatore, Tom Titone, Jeffrey Griglak and Kevin Winkler. (Cast subject to change.)
Lee Raines (actor, dancer, singer, performer, corporate drone, conqueror of cancer and heart disease, and longtime HIV survivor) moved to New York City in 1977 to follow his dream of performing with Chita Rivera. Along the way he has worked alongside and behind celebrities including Morgan Fairchild, Kathleen Turner, Suzanne Somers, and the indefatigable Ms. Chita Rivera. A tireless activist and ACT UP veteran, he has championed numerous HIV/AIDS causes and organizations including AIDS Walk New York, Hollywood Supports, and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Lee is featured in “Living Proof – Courage in the Face of AIDS” and “The AIDS Generation: Stories of Survival and Resilience.” He continues his passionate advocacy on behalf of his comrades and HIV co-survivors and presents nationally on HIV/AIDS issues and is a traveling guest lecturer on living a full and active life with HIV.
