R/evolution, a new futuristic musical with dance and multimedia, begins previews May 28 at the Robert Moss Theater. It features book by William Moulton and M. M. De Voe and music and lyrics by Moulton. It is directed by Richard St George. Opening night is slated for Sunday, May 31.
R/evolution is set 150 years in the future, when governments have been replaced by corporations. Mankind has learned that our hormonal nature causes humans to be self-destructive, but movement routines called Psychothrobics help us to control our hormones and emotions. When a clone of a woman from 2015 somehow remembers her emotional past, a pair of scientists begin daring experiments that threaten the corporate hierarchy. Can humanity survive if their lives and emotions are lived beyond the control of the corporation?
R/evolution stars Mykel Vaughn, Debbie Williams, Alison Rose Munn in a cast of 14 with a production team that includes Scott Dahl (scenic design), David Bengali (projection design), Amith Chandrashaker (lighting design), Ari Fulton (costume design), Emerson Daly (sound design) Jon Bremner (video engineer) and Georgina Bates (assistant director of choreographer). The choreography is directed by William Moulton and created in collaboration with the dancers: Georgina Bates, Kevin Pinero, Colin Ranf, Megan Nordle, Ariel Tharpe, Alex Betka. Actors: Mykel Vaughn, Debbie Williams, Alison Rose Munn, James Parks, Eric Padilla, Jessi St George, and Zina De Voe.
William Moulton (Book, Lyrics, Music) served on the faculties of College of the Canyons, Florida State University, SUNY Brockport, New School University, and currently New York University. He is co/director and founder of the Dance and New Media Program and co/director of music at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Department of Dance. He is founder and first president of the International Guild of Musicians in Dance. Composer of numerous solo, chamber, and electronic scores, as well as over fifty works for dance. He is composer, lyricist and librettist of several works of musical theatre.
M. M. De Voe's (Book) is an interstitial writer of short fiction and has won or been shortlisted for 23 literary prizes including three Pushcart nominations and multiple grants including the Manhattan Community Arts Fund, Fund for Creative Communities, Columbia Writing Fellowship, and an Arch and Bruce Brown Foundation Grant for Historical Fiction with Gay Positive Characters. Founder and Executive Director of Pen Parentis, she holds a Columbia University MFA. Richard St George (Director) is a Professor and past chairman of the Department of Theatre at SUNY Brockport. Mr. St. George is an accomplished actor/director and playwright. He acts and directs at the college and in the community and regional theatre. He has toured in the one-man production of Bully from New York to Florida. Some of his favorite directing challenges include: Barnum, Cabaret, Phaedra, A Piece of My Heart, Under Milk Wood and Lend Me a Tenor. Several of his plays (In The Beginning, Last Period, Fore Bert, SHHH!) have received national attention.
