Internationally acclaimed Australian chanteuse premieres genre-bending musical extravaganza.
October 2 & 9 at Laurie Beechman Theatre
“It’s a sideshow behind a piano; it’s a carnival of kook; it’s a sing-along striptease; and Emma Dean is the neurotic cabaret songstress to lead the chorus of freaks. Just sample her monster Broadway single “Sincerely Fearful,” which is 50% “Wicked” and 50% Tori Amos and 100% addictive, and you will find an unavoidable sound worthy of the repeat button.” THE NEW YORK POST
Internationally acclaimed Australian chanteuse EMMA DEAN premieres her new show EMMA DEAN'S IMAGINARIUM at the Laurie Beechman Theatre (407 West 42 Street). Part theatre piece, part cabaret show, EMMA DEAN'S IMAGINARIUM opens the door to a magical performance experience. It is created by Emma Dean (songs, arrangements, performer), James Dobinson (musical director, arrangement, performer) and Kate Lee (choreographer, performer). Performances are October 2 and 9 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $18 and may be purchased online at www.SpinCycleNYC.com or by phone at 212-352-3101.
EMMA DEAN and her family band, sister Kate and brother James, live in an in-between world where what is real and what is imagined collide. For as long as they can remember, they have each been collecting songs, stories, movements and sounds in an attempt to create their own reality. EMMA DEAN'S IMAGINARIUM is a genre-bending journey into the mystical, musical mind of Emma Dean, featuring original piano-driven pop songs written by the ringmaster herself, physical theatre, covers like you’re never heard them before, and a touch of madness!
EMMA DEAN’s eccentric, effervescent pop toes the magical line between music and theatre. Named “one of ten artists to watch” by the New York Post, Dean has toured Australia and internationally with sold-out solo shows and festival appearances, as well as in support of Jesca Hoop (US), Kate Miller-Heidke, Katie Noonan, Amanda Palmer (US), and The Dresden Dolls (US). A Butterfly Club “Under Our Wing” award recipient, Emma Dean’s musical decadence is “a satisfying serve of warmth, humour and melancholy splashed over a little rock, served up oddball, and well worth a taste” (Jim Forbes, CRIKEY.COM.AU, Australia). Dean moved to New York from Australia this year.
