THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW premiered in London in June, 1973, in the 63 seat Theatre Upstairs at the Royal Court. With book, music, and lyrics by Richard O'Brien, it quickly transferred to a much larger theatre, and twice again to still larger theatres, becoming one of the biggest hits in London theatre, running for years and finally landing on the West End. Other productions followed in Los Angeles, Sydney, Melbourne, New York (Broadway), and San Francisco. It was revived on Broadway in 2001. The 1975 cult hit film version, The Rocky Horror Picture Show (starring Tim Curry), is still in limited release over four decades after its premiere, making it the longest film theatrical release in movie history.
