RuPaul's Drag Race contestant MRS. KASHA DAVIS will return to New York City with her acclaimed cabaret show THERE'S ALWAYS TIME FOR A COCKTAIL. Written by Edward Popil and directed by Ralph Meranto with musical direction by Josh D. Smith, it will be performed Thursday, July 9 at 7pm at The Laurie Beechman Theatre (inside West Bank Cafe at 407 West 42nd Street -- at Ninth Avenue). Tickets are $22 plus a $20 food/drink minimum. Mrs. Kasha Davis (Edward Popil), a Scranton native, now calls Rochester, NY her hometown. Davis is a contestant on Season 7 of RuPaul’s Drag Race and is proud to say she auditioned for all 7 seasons. Kasha is a theatre gal who most recently played Elizabeth Fuller in Me and Jezebel with Blackfriars Theatre as well as The Mystery of Irma Vep. As her alter ego “Ed” Kasha has appeared with JCC Centerstage as Eddie Ryan in Funny Girl and Roger Debris in The Producers. Kasha Davis appears with the fabulous Aggy Dune in their feMALE impersonation show THE BIG WIGS, appearing anywhere that calls for a man in a dress, fast costume changes and tons of laughs. Past credits include Off-Off Broadway productions of The Diary of Anne Frank and True West. Josh D. Smith has music directed and/or accompanied numerous productions throughout the US; including ArtisTree Theatre and Northern Stage in Vermont; with the national tour of Burlesque to Broadway; Arizona Broadway Theatre, Prather Entertainment Group in Lancaster, PA; the Arundel Barn Playhouse in Maine; Jersey Shore Entertainment and Surflight Theatre in New Jersey; Downstairs Cabaret Theatre; Syracuse Stage, Cortland Repertory Theatre and Capital Repertory Theatre in Upstate New York. Josh is the resident Musical Director at the Mac-Haydn Theatre in Chatham, NY. He was named 2013 Central New York (SALT) Musical Director of the Year by the Syracuse New Times. His musical arrangements have been heard in venues across the country including 54 Below in Manhattan. Josh is originally from Syracuse, NY where he served as accompanist with Syracuse University Drama. He keeps himself busy throughout the year with live theatre and cabaret.
Ralph Meranto is completing his 10th Season as Artistic Director and Producer of JCC CenterStage in Rochester, NY where his passion is developing new works including Naked in Encino by Wendy Kout, Our Suburb by Darrah Cloud, the first post-NYMF production of My Mother’s Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding and his own piece, The Hit Factory. Currently he is working with Jason Odell Williams (Handle with Care) on a new play to premiere in 2016. Recent directing credits include Bad Jews, The Last Five Years, Parade and Hairspray at CenterStage and Carter W. Lewis’s Hit-Story at Geva Theatre Center.
