Dutch Kills Theater examines America's future homemakers with this new drama by Anna Moench.
January 8 - 30 at Walkerspace
Dutch Kills Theater will present the New York premiere of IN QUIETNESS by Anna Moench. Directed by Danya Taymor, previews begin January 8 at Walkerspace. Opening is slated for January 14.
IN QUIETNESS begins as a former CEO follows her born-again husband to a Southern Baptist seminary. There she enrolls as a student at the Homemaking House, the nation's premiere training ground for future homemakers and a place where marital bliss means never having to say thank you for cleaning the toilet. Anna Moench's timely play takes a nuanced look at issues too often debated in a partisan way about women, men, their relationships, and the roles they take in society.
IN QUIETNESS stars Blake DeLong (The Bachelors with Lesser America), Rory Kulz (Empire Travel Agency with Woodshed Collective), Kate MacCluggage (The Farnsworth Invention on Broadway), Emma Ramos (Ivo Van Hove's Scenes from a Marriage) and Alley Scott (The Sister). The production team includes Kristen Robinson (set), Masha Tsimring and Caitlyn Rappaport (lighting), Asa Wember (sound), Beth Goldenberg (costumes) and Kevin Clutz (stage manager)
Anna Moench's full-length plays include Hunger, Great Eastern, and The Pillow Book (59E59). Her work has also been seen at the Old Vic, The Flea, Dance Theater Workshop, Looking Glass Theatre, and FringeNYC. She has been a Playwriting/ Screenwriting Fellow with New York Foundation of the Arts, a Jerome Fellow at the Playwrights' Center in Minneapolis, a Van Lier Fellow at the Lark Play Development Center and the recipient of the Jerome Foundation’s 2009 Travel Grant, two EST/Sloan Commissions, the NYU Tisch Joint Stock Commission, and the 2010 T.S. Eliot Exchange with the Old Vic. She has been a writer in residence at Yaddo, Baltimore's CENTERSTAGE, the Lark's Winter Workshop, the Tofte Lake Center, Youngblood at EST, and the Emerging Writers Group at The Public Theater.
